S.V. Char, Ph.D. is a Professor of Business Department for the College of Arts and Sciences, Life University. After an Accounting education at Bombay University and a terminal Economics Degree at the Gokhale Institute of Economics of Poona University, he obtained a Diploma in Teaching Yoga at the Kaivalyadama Yoga Institute, Bombay. The Institute has been pioneering Scientific Yoga and Yoga Therapy for over eighty years. Mahatma Gandhi visited the Institute and what he came across there reinforced his faith in Yogic and natural healing, and noninvasive procedures.

At Life University Dr. Char teaches graduate and undergraduate Business Courses as well as a yoga class for students and seniors under Life’s outreach programs.

Dr. Char has over 140 publications in numerous academic journals and in the lay press. He is the author of, inter alia, the following published papers: Agricultural Income Tax (1969), Notes on Estimation of Steel Demand (1971), Ideal Mix of Technological Routes for Iron and Steelmaking (1979), Criteria for Investments in Steel (1981), Use of Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) in Economics (1990), Statistical Techniques for Business Forecasting (1992), Finances of Black-owned Banks (1993), Economic Impact of 1996 Summer Olympics on Atlanta (1995), Breathing Techniques and Life (2005), Yoga Styles and Brands (2006) and others.

After a stint as Economic Research Officer, Indian Merchants’ Chamber, Dr. Char functioned as Executive-in-Charge, Corporate Information Services Department, Mahindra Ugine Steel Co. Ltd. (1970-86) and edited the Company’s house journals: Manogat for factory employees and Executive Digest for its officers. He was a Member, Board of Examiners for managerial economics at J.B. Institute of Management Sciences, Bombay. Before joining Life University in 1997, Dr. Char taught Economics and Statistics at Clark Atlanta University and did research at CAU’s Southern Center for Studies in Public Policy.

Dr. Char has in the past served as the Honorary Secretary and Treasurer, Consumer Guidance Society of India; Honorary Secretary, Harvard Business School Association of India (HBSAI); and as Vice President, Amateur Astronomers’ Association (AAA), Xavier College, Bombay. He also edited the Monthly Bulletins of HBSAI and AAA. He was a columnist for the Economic TimesIndustrial Times and Gentleman.
