Dr. John W. Garver, a professor in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs at Georgia Institute of Technology, is a specialist in Chinese foreign relations and Asian international relations. Dr. Garver has authored 7 books on Sino-Soviet, Sino-American, and Sino-Indian relations, and nearly a hundred articles on various aspects of China’s foreign relations. He is a member of the National Committee on U.S.-China relations, participates frequently in various Asia policy related fora, and has lived for extended periods in China, Taiwan, India, and Pakistan. He speaks Chinese and German.

He is the recipient of awards from the U.S. National Academy of Science’s Committee on Scholarly Communications with the PRC, the Fulbright Foundation, the U.S. Department of Education, the Chiang Ch’ing-Kuo foundation, the U.S. Institute for Pakistan Studies, and the Pacific Cultural Foundation, and the Smith Richardson Foundation. Dr. Garver set up and directed for a number of years an exchange program between Georgia Tech and Fudan University in Shanghai. He currently serves on the editorial boards of The China Quarterly, The Journal of Contemporary China, Asian Security, and The Journal of America-East Asian Relations.
